Our History

In 2020 we celebrated the 72nd Annual meeting of the "Modern" North Canadian Baptist Association. However, it should be noted that the North Canadian Baptist Association actually pre-dates statehood, going back at least 125 years to 1895.

It was originally called the Canadian River Association of the Western Arkansas and Oklahoma Indian Territory Baptist Convention.

By the time of statehood and the formation of the Oklahoma Baptist Convention, the name had already been changed to the North Canadian Baptist Association.

By the Annual meeting of 1948, the area served by this Association had grown to encompass four counties plus some outlying churches, and the number of member churches had grown to exceed 53. A committee was formed to study the best avenue for future growth in our area.

The committee proposed in it's report to the Annual Meeting on September 17, 1949, that the Association be divided and that the question of dividing the Association be decided in a special called business session on October 26, 1949.

At this special called meeting, it was decided to proceed with the peaceful, amicable and equitable division of the Association into two sister Associations.

It was further decided that the name of the North Canadian Baptist Association would be retained by the churches of Okmulgee and Okfuskee counties; and that the newly formed South Canadian Baptist Association would consist of the churches of Hughes and Seminole counties.

This group of churches and their predecessors who had originally established our association have, from the beginning, had a vision of proclaiming to the people around us, both by word and by deed, the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Join us as we have celebrated the first 125 years of our history and are eagerly looking to see what God will do in our midst as we move forward into the next 125 years, seeking to

Learn from the past,
Live in the present, and
Plan for the future.
